Does Anyone Criticize China or Japan for Their Ethnic Majority? No. So Why Criticize Israel?
When discussing the preservation of national identity and ethnic majorities, certain double standards become glaringly apparent. China is overwhelmingly Han Chinese, making up over 90% of the population. Japan is even more homogeneous, with ethnic Japanese constituting nearly 98% of its people. And yet, no one voices outrage over their demographic composition or accuses them of racism or exclusionism for maintaining their ethnic identity.
However, when it comes to Israel—the world’s only Jewish state—the narrative suddenly changes. Israel, a tiny country founded as a refuge for Jews after centuries of persecution, including the Holocaust, faces constant criticism for maintaining its Jewish majority. Why the double standard?
The Hypocrisy of Selective Outrage
No one demands that China open its borders and dilute its Han Chinese majority. No one insists that Japan adopt policies that would diminish its ethnic identity. Yet Israel, whose very existence was meant to provide a safe haven for Jews, is expected to forfeit its right to remain a Jewish state. This expectation is not just hypocritical—it’s rooted in antisemitism.
A Jewish Majority is Essential for Israel’s Survival
Jews, throughout history, have faced oppression, exile, and genocide. The establishment of Israel was not an arbitrary decision; it was a necessity. A Jewish majority is critical to ensure that Israel remains a safe homeland for Jews worldwide, where they can live freely as a people without fear of persecution.
Calls for Israel to abandon its Jewish majority ignore historical realities and seek to undermine the very essence of what Israel stands for. This is not about fairness or democracy—it is about singling out the Jewish people for standards no other nation is held to.
The Truth About National Identity
Nations worldwide prioritize their cultural and ethnic identities. Countries like Hungary and Poland actively enforce policies to maintain their demographic makeup. Even in Western nations that champion diversity, indigenous and ethnic groups fight to preserve their heritage. Why should Israel be treated any differently?
The answer is simple: antisemitism. The demand that Israel abandon its Jewish character while no one makes similar demands of any other nation is blatant discrimination.
The Response to Antisemitic Hypocrisy
We must reject the double standards applied to Israel. We must call out those who disguise their antisemitism under the pretense of human rights advocacy. Israel has every right to exist as a Jewish state, just as China has the right to be a predominantly Han Chinese nation and Japan has the right to remain Japanese.
To those who attack Israel for preserving its Jewish identity while ignoring the same realities in other nations: Sit down and shut up. Just say ‘No’ to antisemitism.
